Ever Be

Have you ever heard a song or quote, and then it just consumed your thoughts? Ever Be by Bethel Music is that song for me. I cannot remember when the first time I heard it was, but recently I have listened to it constantly on repeat. While going through our Bible study Monday night about thankfulness I came across the verse that consumes the chorus of this song.

“I will praise the Lord at all times. His praise is always on my lips.” Psalms 34:1

The imagery in this song is outstanding. Just look at these lines,

“Your love is devoted like a ring of solid gold, like a vow that is tested, like a covenant of old…Faithful You have been and faithful you will be, You pledge yourself to me and it’s why I sing, Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips…Now you’re making me like you, clothing me in white, bringing beauty from ashes. For You will have Your bride. Free of all her guilt and rid of all her shame, and known by her true name and it’s why I sing”

I hear this and I immediately think about a wedding. Jesus is the groom and the church is his bride. While I don’t know the intentions or the emotions that were involved in writing this song, but to me it is a reminder of His immense love for me. Finding that “fairy-tale” love story is something I’ve always dreamed about, but through the years I have realized it is not a fairy tale. Jesus has laid down the ground work and showed us what true love is. I am looking forward to that day where I get married to a man who looks at me the way my dad looks at my mom, and how Jesus looks at me.

In John 4:13-14, Jesus is talking to the woman at the well, and

Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again and again. Anyone who drinks the water I give will never thirst—not ever. The water I give will be an artesian well within, gushing fountains of endless life.”

I recently challenged myself to read the Bible in its entirety before the end of the year. Through spending time in the Word and reflecting in prayer, I have had this overwhelming sense of peace and happiness. When you are filling your “cup” up with material things and people who can turn their back on you, you’ll always be wanting more. Or, you can fill your “cup” with the love that  only God provides and want for nothing.

So, back to what I am thankful for. I would have to say this period of waiting is what I am truly thankful for.

“Don’t underestimate what God is doing during your season of waiting.”
